Is Schoolies 2020 still going ahead?

There is no ‘organiser’ of Schoolies and no ‘Schoolies Festival’. Schoolies occurs whenever and wherever groups of young people gather to celebrate the completion of Year 12.

The Queensland Government does not promote Schoolies, rather it responds to the Schoolies phenomenon with the implementation of the Safer Schoolies Gold Coast Response. Including diversionary activities and support services aimed at keeping young people safe, the safety response is coordinated by the Department of Child Safety, Youth and Women in partnership with the City of Gold Coast, nine other government agencies and seven support services.

In these uncertain times, it is currently unclear if the safety response will go ahead as per previous years, including the delivery of the Schoolies Hub, on the ground support and the Safer Schoolies Gold Coast Response as a whole.

Despite restrictions still being place, the Queensland Government is aware that Schoolies accommodation booking agents continue to accept reservations for this holiday period.

The 2020 Gold Coast Response model will be determined and communicated in the coming months by the Queensland Government, in line with current health advice around the COVID-19 pandemic and modelled on best practises in keeping young people and the community safe.

Please make sure you are following our SchooliesGC Facebook page where we will share information as it becomes available.

We also urge all Year 12 school leavers to closely monitor and follow the advice issued by Queensland Health in the coming months available on the Queensland Health website including a fact sheet and frequently asked questions.
