Getting around on the Gold Coast

Ask a volunteer for a ‘walk home’

At Schoolies it is paramount that you Be Safe and Watch Your Mates, this means sticking together and not walking alone.

Volunteers are on hand to provide a range of support during Schoolies, and will even walk you back to your accommodation.

To get a ‘walk home’:

  • Ask one of the street team volunteers for help. You won’t miss them, they will be wearing bright orange vests.
  • Visit the Red Frogs tent outside the Safer Schoolies Beach Party
  • Call the Red Frogs hotline on 1300 557 123.

Public Transport

A range of public transport services are available on the Gold Coast, including the tram service, G:link, which connects Surfers Paradise with both Southport and Broadbeach.

Remember to be aware and stay alert around trams.  Don’t be distracted, never run out in front of trams and always use crossings.

Extended bus and tram services will run during Schoolies. Visit Translink or phone 13 12 30 for all public transport information including timetables and fares or use the journey planner to find out about scheduled bus, train and tram services.

Using a taxi, ride-booking or limousine service

Your safety must always be top priority when using a taxi, ride-booking or limousine service. Recent changes have been made to enhance your safety when using these services – here are some of them:

Before your journey:

  • You cannot hail a ride-booking vehicle on the street or enter at a taxi rank. Wait with your friends at a pick-up point that’s safe and well-lit.
  • You can identify your ride-booking vehicle more easily with new display signs on the front and rear windows.
  • Before entering your ride-booking vehicle, check the licence plate matches the one on your app.
  • The Queensland Government does not regulate the age of passengers who use taxi, ride-booking or limousine services. Please check with your service provider for any passenger age restrictions.

During your journey:

  • You can check your taxi driver's authorisation card in the vehicle.
  • You cannot consume alcohol during your taxi and ride-booking service.
  • You are responsible for wearing a seatbelt.
  • Approved security cameras are installed in most taxis, and ride-booking and limousine vehicles where certain passenger/driver risks are present.
  • Ride-booking drivers cannot drop you off at a taxi rank.

After your journey:

  • It’s illegal for your taxi, ride-booking or limousine driver to make arrangements with you for future bookings, unless they also operate as a booking entity.
