Could you be the next Support Team superstar?

Help guide the next generation of school leavers through the life changing experience of Schoolies!

Each year, hundreds of dedicated and caring volunteers give up their time to help make Schoolies as safe as possible. Work alongside community organisations and government agencies to deliver vital safety and support services to school leavers celebrating on the Gold Coast.

There are so many activities for you to take part in – like helping at the Wristband Centre, roaming the streets as the first point of contact for schoolies in need, or assisting in the Volunteer Hub.

Safer Schoolies volunteers patrol in groups of four and provide the first point of contact for schoolies and the local community in need.

They fulfill a range of roles including supporting and assisting emergency service personnel and being a friendly face that schoolies can trust with the right advice or support when needed.

Volunteers often find the experience enormously rewarding and a great opportunity to make new friends.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19?

Nope. Volunteers are no longer required to be vaccinated against COVID-19.

What days and times do you need volunteers?

Shifts are flexible – from one day to the entire week. You’ll be able to nominate your availability after you apply. Times for the 2024 Response will be released closer to the Response.

How do I sign up?

Registrations for the Safer Schoolies Gold Coast Response are now open. Follow the link at the top of the page.

What activities can I volunteer for?

Take your pick from our main roles during Schoolies. Don’t let the fear of missing out (FOMO) get to you… you can always try different roles throughout the week.

  1. Wristband Assistant – located in our Wristband Centre, team up with a fellow volunteer to scan tickets and assign wristbands to schoolies. Feel the excitement as they kick off their celebrations.
  2. Roving Street/Beach Patrols – pound the pavement (or the sand) as you walk the Response Zone in groups of four. You’ll be the first point of contact for schoolies in need.
As our boots on the ground, you’ll be the eyes and ears of Schoolies. You’ll radio in intel to our control hub, who’ll help you provide the right support for every scenario.
  3. Volunteer Hub Assistant – volunteers get to enjoy a dedicated Volunteer Hub to rest and recharge, stock up on snacks and chat with newfound friends. We always need extra helping hands to assist in running this space too.
  4. Silent Disco Ushers – have a boogie while you hand out glowsticks, usher schoolies through activities and support our Tuesday Night Live celebrations on Surfers Paradise beach.

How long is a shift?

Shifts are usually 5 to 6 hours.

Is there any training?

Yes, and it is compulsory for all new volunteers to attend one in-person session. You’ll receive more details once you apply.

Can I be rostered on the same team/group as my friend?

Absolutely! Teams and groups are organised on the night. Just ensure you pick the same shifts when registering.

What will I get out of the experience?

As a volunteer, you’ll feel the excitement of schoolies firsthand. You’ll forge new friendships and gain valuable life experience. Most importantly, you’ll feel proud to give back to your community and be thanked and embraced by school leavers for the support you provide.
