Frequently asked questions

Where can I get my official Safer Schoolies wristband? Can I purchase an official Safer Schoolies wristband? We've pulled together the answers to these, and more of our most commonly asked questions below.

Q1. Where can I get my official Safer Schoolies wristband on the Gold Coast?

For Schoolies on the Gold Coast, you can get your official Safer Schoolies wristband from the Wristband Centre located on the corner of Surfers Paradise Boulevard and Cypress Avenue, Surfers Paradise.

Opening hours are:

  • 11am to 8pm - Saturday 16 November 2019
  • 6pm to 8pm - Sunday 17 November to Friday 22 November 2019.

Q2. What do I need to get an official Safer Schoolies wristband?

You must be a genuine 2019 Year 12 school leaver and must be able to present your valid 2019 Australian Year 12 photo ID. Your ID must have your photo on it.

If it doesn’t contain a photo, you will also need to bring your drivers licence or passport with you as well.

If your Year 12 photo ID doesn’t not include your year level, you will need to also bring along a letter from your school (on official School letterhead) stating that you are a current Year 12 school leaver.

No valid school ID = No Schoolies wristband/ID = No access

Q3. I don’t have a Year 12 photo ID. Can I still get an official Safer Schoolies wristband?

Yes – but you will need to bring your drivers license or passport with you as well as a letter from your school (on official letterhead) confirming that you are a genuine Year 12 school leaver in 2019.  Make sure you bring both the letter and your photographic ID with you to the Wristband Centre.

Q4. Can I purchase a Safer Schoolies wristband?

No. If you are attending Schoolies on the Gold Coast, official Safer Schoolies wristbands are free for genuine 2019 Year 12 school leavers.

Yes – if you are attending Schoolies in Airlie Beach, you will need to register to get a Schoolies wristband. To register you must show valid Year 12 photo ID, proving that you are a current Year 12 school leaver in 2019. You can either pre-register with Whitsunday Schoolies prior to Schoolies or register when you arrive at Schoolies Central.

Q5. I dropped out of school, but I am still coming to Schoolies. Can I get an official Safer Schoolies wristband?

No.

If you have dropped out of school, the ONLY way you can access an official Safer Schoolies wristband is if you are still studying. For example, you must still be participating in other Australian education pathways e.g. TAFE or a registered apprentice AND you must be able to prove that you would have graduated Year 12 in 2019.

You will need to provide a letter signed by your Australian Registered Training Organisation (on company letterhead) stating that you are registered as an apprentice or attending TAFE, AND if you had continued your high school education, you would have graduated Year 12 in 2019. This letter must be brought with you to the Wristband Centre along with your current photo ID.

Q6. What does my official Safer Schoolies wristband entitle me to on the Gold Coast?

An official Safer Schoolies wristband entitles you to access the Beach Party nightly between 7pm and midnight from Saturday 16 – Friday 22 November, 2019. The Beach Party is a fenced, alcohol and drug-free zone on the beach in Surfers Paradise providing nightly DJ entertainment and a Chill Out Night on Tuesday 19 November. The Beach Party can only be accessed by genuine 2019 Year 12 school leavers wearing an official Safer Schoolies wristband.

Q7. I need to take my Safer Schoolies wristband off for work. Can I get another one?

No. There are no repeat wristbands.

Q8. I can’t make it to Wristband Centre until after 8pm. Is there any other way to get a Safer Schoolies wristband after the Centre closes?

No. Official Safer Schoolies wristbands are only issued to schoolies during opening hours stated below. You will have to wait until the following night to access the Wristband Centre.

Opening hours are:

  • 11am to 8pm - Saturday 16 November 2019
  • 6pm to 8pm - Sunday 17 November to Friday 22 November 2019.

Q9. I am home-schooled and don’t have a current Year 12 school ID. How can I get a wristband?

If you are home-schooled, you must provide a letter either from your state’s Department of Education and Training (on Government letterhead) or from your Home-schooling network that states you are a current Year 12 school leaver. This letter and an official photographic ID (e.g. drivers licence or passport) must be brought with you to the Wristband Centre.

Q12.I’m staying at our family apartment in Surfers, can I access the Beach Party?

If you are staying on the Gold Coast during 16-22 November 2019, you will be able to access the Beach Party if you have an official Safer Schoolies wristband (please refer to the conditions of obtaining a wristband). If you are staying on the Gold Coast after the 22 November, 2019, you will need to direct all enquiries to your booking agent or beach party providers.

During Schoolies, there are other parties and events being held but these are separate to the Safer Schoolies Gold Coast Response and run by commercial providers. You will need to contact them for further information about ticket sales.

Q13.Can I take a bag in to the Beach Party?

No. For the safety of all schoolies, no bags are allowed inside the Beach Party. Grab a clear plastic pouch when you get your official 2019 Safer Schoolies wristband from the Wristband Centre - this can be worn in to the Beach Party. As there are no cloak room facilities available, we strongly suggest you leave bags and valuables at your accommodation, in your car or at home.

Lockers are located on The Esplanade across from the Beach Party entry however, these are limited and are managed by a third party.

Q14. Is the Safer Schoolies Beach Party accessible?

Yes. Access to the Beach Party for Year 12 graduates living with accessibility requirements can be arranged and includes access to viewing areas, parking and carer accreditation. To make accessibility arrangements, please contact the Safer Schoolies team directly by email SaferSchoolies@csyw.qld.gov.au or complete our Contact us form.
